Games Haven UK | Nottingham

Games Haven UK is committed to (Games Haven anti-slavery policy) fair treatment, responsible business practices and the protection of fundamental human rights. We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking and exploitation, whether these occur within our own operations or through businesses supplying goods and services to us.

As a tabletop gaming venue, café and events space in Nottingham, we recognise that responsible business practices extend beyond our own premises. They also concern the people who manufacture, distribute, deliver and provide the products and services our business uses.

This policy explains our position, the standards we expect from those working with us and how concerns about exploitation should be raised. You can also see our privacy policy.

1. What Is Modern Slavery?

Modern slavery is a serious crime and a violation of human rights. It can include slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, human trafficking and other forms of exploitation in which individuals are controlled, coerced or deprived of their freedom for another person’s benefit.

Exploitation is not always immediately visible. It may involve threats, intimidation, debt bondage, the withholding of wages or identity documents, restrictions on movement, or circumstances in which someone cannot freely leave their employment.

Games Haven UK does not accept or condone these practices.

2. Our Commitment

We are committed to conducting our business ethically, lawfully and with integrity.

Our approach is informed by the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and our responsibility to recognise and respond to potential exploitation.

We aim to:
  • Prevent forced labour, human trafficking and other forms of modern slavery within our operations.
  • Treat employees, volunteers, contractors and other workers fairly and with respect.
  • Encourage responsible sourcing and ethical behaviour among our suppliers and business partners.
  • Identify and respond to credible concerns about exploitation.
  • Make it possible for people to raise concerns without fear of retaliation.
  • Review our working practices as the business develops.

We recognise that no business can responsibly guarantee that every organisation within its wider supply chain is free from exploitation. Our commitment is to remain alert to risks, take proportionate preventative measures and act when concerns are identified.

3. Who This Policy Applies To

This policy applies to individuals working for or on behalf of Games Haven UK, including employees, management, temporary workers, volunteers, event organisers, contractors, consultants and representatives.

It also establishes the standards we expect from suppliers, service providers and other organisations with whom we conduct business.

Customers, visitors and members of the wider gaming community are welcome to report concerns about suspected exploitation connected with our activities.

4. Responsibilities and Accountability

Management Responsibilities

Games Haven UK management is responsible for overseeing this policy and ensuring that concerns are treated seriously.

Management responsibilities include communicating expectations, reviewing reported concerns, considering risks associated with suppliers and contractors, and determining what action may be required.

Responsibility for the policy rests with Games Haven UK management, with appropriate matters escalated to the person responsible for compliance or a director.

Staff, Volunteers and Contractors

Everyone working for or representing Games Haven UK is expected to act with integrity, respect the rights of others and remain alert to potential signs of exploitation.

Individuals should report genuine concerns promptly rather than attempting to investigate suspected criminal activity themselves.

No person is expected to place themselves or another individual in danger when raising a concern.

5. Suppliers and Responsible Sourcing

Games Haven UK operates in a sector involving products and services from a variety of industries.

Depending on our business activities, these may include tabletop games, miniatures, gaming accessories, printed merchandise, food and catering supplies, cleaning and maintenance services, event services, and printing or fulfilment providers.

Some products may pass through manufacturers, distributors and subcontractors before reaching our premises.

We expect suppliers and business partners to respect applicable employment and human rights legislation, including requirements relating to voluntary employment, lawful working conditions and protection from coercion.

Where appropriate, our supplier arrangements may include:
  • Considering labour and exploitation risks when selecting suppliers.
  • Requesting clarification about employment or sourcing practices.
  • Communicating our expectations regarding ethical conduct.
  • Considering relevant contractual protections.
  • Reviewing credible complaints or evidence of abusive practices.
  • Taking proportionate action where a supplier fails to address serious concerns.

Our assessment of suppliers should reflect the nature of the products or services supplied and the risks reasonably associated with them.

6. Prevention, Awareness and Training

Preventing exploitation depends partly on recognising that it can occur in ordinary commercial environments, not simply in visibly dangerous workplaces.

Games Haven UK aims to promote awareness among relevant staff, volunteers and contractors so that potential concerns can be identified and directed to management.

Information and guidance may cover the meaning of modern slavery, indicators of possible exploitation, suitable reporting procedures and the importance of protecting individuals who may be at risk.

Awareness arrangements will be considered as part of induction and working practices, with further guidance provided where necessary.

7. Reporting Concerns

Anyone who believes modern slavery, human trafficking or forced labour may be occurring in connection with Games Haven UK should raise their concerns as soon as reasonably possible.

Concerns may be reported to a member of management or directly to Games Haven UK using the contact details below.

8. Responding to Suspected Exploitation

Where a credible concern is raised, Games Haven UK will consider the circumstances, the potential risk to affected individuals and the appropriate next steps.

Depending on the situation, this may involve obtaining further information, reviewing a commercial relationship, seeking specialist guidance or notifying the appropriate authorities.

The welfare and safety of anyone potentially experiencing exploitation must remain a priority.

We will not knowingly continue arrangements involving forced labour, slavery or human trafficking where serious concerns have been substantiated and cannot be appropriately remedied.

Where appropriate, we may work with suppliers to address poor practices or terminate a commercial relationship.

9. Breaches of This Policy

Breaches of this policy will be treated seriously.

Employees who deliberately participate in exploitation or knowingly disregard serious concerns may face disciplinary action, which could include dismissal, subject to applicable law and fair procedures.

Contractors, suppliers or other business partners who breach these standards may face contractual action, including termination of the relevant working relationship where appropriate.

Suspected criminal conduct may be referred to law enforcement.

10. Communication and Review

This policy should be accessible to staff, contractors, suppliers and members of the public through the Games Haven UK website.

Games Haven UK intends to review the policy at least annually and sooner where there are significant changes in legislation, business operations, supplier arrangements or identified risks.

Comments and suggestions for improving the policy are welcome and may be sent to info@gameshaven.co.uk.

This policy is intended to guide responsible business conduct. It does not form part of an employment contract and may be amended as necessary, subject to applicable legal requirements.
